How to make your room interesting. How to make a small room cozy? How to make a small room cozy and beautiful

Recipes cozy home from our regular author Anna Mulan

Just recently I moved to new apartment. But I didn’t experience the expected joy from the move. I could sit in my favorite Starbucks until the night: work, relax and be inspired. It was more comfortable there than at home. When I felt that I was already 80% coffee, I realized that it was time to return home.

I wondered why I don’t feel drawn to it? Why is it more comfortable in a noisy coffee shop? And in general, what little things make a house a home?And here are the recipes for a cozy home that cannot be exchanged for a cafe. Tested by personal experience.

Well, I decided to make changes in the house. But where to start? Read a smart book, magazine, watch design tutorials on the Internet, or maybe hire a designer? But this would not make the apartment any more comfortable, because the concept “ cosiness “Everyone has their own. It's something personal.

I started simple - with questions: “What kind of atmosphere in the house do I generally need? How would I like to feel in each room?”

Don’t rush to throw out old furniture and buy new furniture. The apartment will not become more comfortable. Ask the question: what do YOU want? And for each room, choose at least three word-symbols that describe the atmosphere you want to create.

A very cool book on this topic “”. Makes it clear that before starting global changes in the house, you should first understand yourself.

My comfort was hampered by things that I haven’t used for a long time, but it’s a pity to throw them away (“it’s a memory”). I'm sure everyone has encountered this problem (our balconies are a temple of memory for unnecessary items).Rubbish accumulates and gathers dust over the years. And old, no longer needed, memories prevent you from enjoying the present. By the way, we have a separate section on the topic of unnecessary things and order in the house.

Don’t be afraid to throw out jars, bottles, teabags, boxes - anything you haven’t used for a long time. Yes, these things were once needed, but the time has come for something truly important and new.

I recently traveled around Sweden and noticed one detail: in each apartment there was a paper star-lamp on the windowsill. And the rooms and balconies were decorated with lights. The atmosphere reached me even on the street home comfort and warmth.I then thought: “This is cool! But just little lights.” MWe treat light in the house superficially: we hung a chandelier and, at best, installed a floor lamp. And light is a powerful comforter that creates an atmosphere.

Highlight each area in the room with light, avoid dark corners. Place a floor lamp near the chair in which you like to read, hang a sconce over your favorite painting or photo, don’t forget about a table lamp and a chandelier with soft light.And, of course, candles - warm and lively light.

Coziness's best friend is a dimmer: install it on all lighting sources for the desired atmosphere.

The sofa is an interesting thing. It’s like an eminence grise: it doesn’t seem to be the basis of the interior, but it influences everything in the room.The sofa carries a great emotional load - it is a place where you can relax and unwind, chat with family and friends, wrap yourself in a blanket and watch TV with your significant other. Take his choice seriously.

“Well, I’ll buy something cheap for the first time,” I mistakenly thought. Mine was uncomfortable and hard, and it broke quickly. I had to go in search of something new and high quality to make the apartment comfortable.

Quality is expressed in beauty and convenience. When choosing, look at the neatness of the seams, the coating, and most importantly, the filler. The ideal filling is down with a thin layer of foam.

A minute of theory: LPPU or latex polyurethane foam is the ideal solution. Unlike simple foam rubber, the bubbles in which burst under load (this causes the coating to sag and lose its shape), latex does not suffer from use, but returns to its original position every time. You can check this by sitting on the couch. See how quickly it gets back into shape. Another surefire way is to ask a consultant or ask to look and touch the layer.

Don't skimp on a decent sofa - this is your comfort. We even have a whole article about this: “How to choose a good sofa?” And how to make it more comfortable - see below.

The blanket often travels from room to room on my shoulders. When I want warmth, I take it out from the depths of the closet. But it can warm not only people, but also give warmth to an entire room.

Blankets thrown over the back of a chair or the armrest of a sofa seem to hint that they live in the room and use it. Cashmere, wool, cotton, checkered or striped. With them, any interior will be more homely and lively.

And the Pillows! To be honest, I only had one. She lay on the bed, covered with a blanket, and performed one function - she transported her to the world of dreams.Pillows can update and even change the interior. Place one on the armchair and several on the sofa, and the room will look new!

But it's not that simple. In addition to beauty, convenience is also important here. If family members, friends, guests, when sitting down, move or remove the pillows, then there is no question of any comfort here. No matter how luxurious the pillow is, first of all it should invite you to sit down.

Here are a couple of lifehacks:

pay attention to down pillows - they are the softest;

if you doubt the size of the pillow, make a larger error;

large square ones for sofas ( 35-50 cm) , rectangular for chairs (30x40 or 40x65);

the color of the pillow must match at least three things in the interior (curtains, carpet, wallpaper, etc.)

Here is the formula for cozying a sofa = a blanket on the back or armrest + 2 identical pillows in the corners + a rectangular pillow in the center. (More details about the number, location and size of pillows in ours)

There are many useful tips on soft coziness in the book “Home Sweet Home”. I read it in one evening and was inspired to buy new pillows!

The first thing people notice when entering a house is its aroma. It remains in the memory and creates the first impression. It is unlikely that you will be comfortable in an apartment with the smell of dampness or mold.

This does not mean that you need to buy a bunch of fragrances and spray them where it smells unpleasant. The point is that you should create a basic aroma that is always in the apartment - you feel it as soon as you walk home from the street.

You can use the following:

aromatic mixture

Easy to use sachet. Sachets are small pillows or bags filled with natural materials: petals, twigs, herbs, spices.

Such bags are placed throughout the apartment, and always in the hallway, so that a pleasant aroma greets you after a hard day at work.

aroma candles

Depending on the season or our mood, we can change the smells of our home using aromatherapy candles. They enliven any room and are appropriate almost everywhere, except dining table- there is a place for the smell of delicious food.

Be careful. From candles made of cheap and low-quality materials, you will get not relaxation, but headache. Choose from soy or coconut waxes with natural ingredients.

Have you noticed how a room transforms when you stand in it? beautiful bouquet? It’s somehow immediately fresh, joyful, cozy. But for most people, such transformations in the interior happen on holidays, when flowers migrate into the house as a gift.

I love fresh flowers. They invigorate the room and create a fresh aroma. That's why I made it a rule to keep them at home all year round(you can read about how to choose flowers). Nobody says that you need to buy huge gift bouquets. A couple of tulips, peonies or ordinary daisies - and the room becomes more comfortable.

Another option is indoor plants. They make the rooms look so homely and well-groomed. Choose cute and fragrant plants: jasmine, narcissus, amaryllis, geranium, citrus.

Just imagine, after a long renovation, you enter an apartment. The house is unrecognizable, everything is stylish and new. Walk around the apartment as if through a museum, looking at every detail. Sit down on the chic and soft sofa and look around. Everything seems beautiful, but you uncomfortable. And all because it remains to add myself .

Photos, paintings, books, memorabilia tell our story. With proper arrangement of these items, it turns out living house, telling about the owner.

We make the home ours through:

Books

This is what we love and admire. Through books we are able to talk about our hobbies without even naming them. Therefore, there is no need to put them in boxes and store them in a closet.

You can make stacks of books on the floor. You can place them on shelves, diluting them with candles, figurines, photographs.

Photo

I love lively, random shots. They accurately convey our emotions and state at the moment of the past. These are the kind of photos that should be stored not on your smartphone, but on the walls of your apartment. How to do this, read

Print, hang or place anywhere in the room. Fill it with emotions.

Paintings and drawings

You surround yourself with creativity that inspires.

Hang pictures on the wall or simply place them on a table, mantel, or lean against the wall to create a carefree atmosphere. (For information on how to do this, see the article “How to hang pictures without headaches?”)

Recently I discovered the magic of decorative mirrors. Walking between showrooms at IKEA, I noticed one living room. It was airy, fresh and bright. And all because of decorative mirrors in unusual frames.They multiplied the light reflected in them from the chandeliers so much that the room became very lively. The diffused light illuminated the dark corners of the space and it turned out very cozy.

Do you understand what I mean? Mirrors won't hurt. Hang them on the wall instead of a picture, place them above the fireplace or next to some piece of furniture, place them between a couple of windows, above a sofa, above any shelf or dressing table.

If there is a fireplace in the house, then 50% of the cozy plan has been completed! Because fire is warmth, calm, peace, comfort.An alternative is an electric fireplace: there is no need to add firewood, it is impossible to get burned, there is heat.In general, if you have the opportunity to purchase this magical thing, don’t hesitate!

These points helped me bring the apartment closer to the cozy ideal. But there is more important detail- the comfort in the house is created by its people.

Your comfort is you and the emotions you bring. Positive or negative, they charge every corner.

And here is the ideal formula for comfort: spiritual gatherings with family and friends + love + 10 tips listed above, and you will never trade your home for a noisy cafe.

You may have just logged in adolescence or want to change your room a little. If you consider the bedroom as one of the places to express your individuality, then why not decorate your room according to your new style and ideas of comfort?

Steps

Part 1

Preparation and planning

    Get permission from your parents or guardians. Many parents and carers won't mind a simple rearrangement of bedroom furniture, but larger changes may raise eyebrows (or resentment). Ask permission to change your room before starting any work. Share your plans and find out how possible it is. This approach will be especially appropriate when it comes time to buy new jewelry!

    • If you refuse, there is no need to be upset or angry. Just ask for the reason. There are many aspects that can influence a parent's decision, from your financial situation to the specifics of your wishes. If you know the exact reasons, then it will be easier for you to reach a compromise.
    • It is usually much easier to persuade your parents to buy small, portable pieces of furniture than to convince them that you need a new wardrobe and sofa, and even more so to prove that your room needs a complete renovation. Small items are easy to bring and carry into the bedroom. Plus, they won't cost too much.
  1. Consider your interests and ideas about comfort. To a large extent, the appearance of the future room depends on your ideas about “comfort,” so it is important to think about it. What's on your Can the look be called cozy? Remember that you are the one to live in this room, so you have the right to decorate it according to your ideas. It is important to consider your interests and definition of “comfort” to create your own style.

    • Your ideas of cozy can include anything, but "dark" themes (black or burgundy colors, "gothic" or "emo" style with dark symbols like a skull and crossbones) usually have nothing to do with cozy. A cozy room should radiate joy and innocent purity, rather than a depressive and cynical outlook on life.
    • Light shades of colors (blue, pink, yellow and purple) or pastel colors, Stuffed Toys, fluffy things (pillows, carpets, blankets), artificial flowers and other discreet versions of “girly” themes.
  2. Decide if you need a central theme. There are many thematic options for decorating a room, from personal hobbies to different cultures world, fictional worlds and characters. A topic like this could be a good starting point.

    • Don't overdo it - it's fine to put a few sports trophies on the shelf and add two or three posters to the walls, but don't overload the room with just sports-themed items without any variety. Everything should be in moderation.
  3. Look for inspiration on the Internet. There are many people whose ideas you can use to decorate your bedroom. Some people prefer to find inspiration in in social networks, to create certain style(like "Tumblr-style rooms"), while others use individual designs or make their own decorations. A Google search for “bedroom decorating ideas” will yield plenty of examples and sources of inspiration.

    Draw the room of your dreams. When you decide on the desired design, you can draw your room with furniture and decorations. This will help you visualize your room in detail and think about missing aspects.

    Compose budget . Surely you are planning to buy new things for your room. However, it is not always possible to buy everything you want. You may find yourself in exactly this situation. It's best to determine the maximum amount you can spend on redecorating your interior, and then evaluate each individual aspect. It may turn out that you don't have much money, but it's better than frivolous spending.

    • Also plan your time wisely. If you are not on vacation, then you will not have the opportunity to devote all your time to repairing and updating the interior (the same applies to parents). Additionally, if you plan to paint the walls or hang wallpaper, keep in mind that the glue and paint can take a day to dry, and the smell will take even longer to dissipate. You don’t need to think that you can do it in a couple of hours.
  4. Make your own decorations. If you like to make things rather than buy ready-made things, you can plan several projects. There are plenty of tips or ideas online (including wikiHow) that can help you come up with interesting ideas for decorating your room. Every guest in your bedroom will immediately notice that you like to make things yourself rather than buy ready-made ones.

    • Homemade items can require a lot of time and money (needed to buy materials to implement your idea). In some cases, it is easier and cheaper to buy ready-made jewelry to save money and your time.
  5. Find alternative options. There is no need to be upset if you can’t buy the right things for a certain style - there is always the opportunity to make the room even better, even if you initially planned something different. Don't be afraid to consider alternative options. It is quite possible that new idea you will like it even more! Think creatively and consider all options - search for ideas online or discuss with friends or family to make the room beautiful and cozy.

    • If it is not possible to change the color of the walls, then buy a new bedspread suitable color. You can also use decorations that cover a large area of the wall, such as posters or cork boards.
    • Update your current furniture. Try decorating your desk with stickers, covering your chair with a blanket, and upgrading your picture or photo frames.
    • If you like to make things, you can change the homemade things you already have. If you have all the necessary supplies, the work will not be expensive.

    Part 2

    Purchasing furniture and accessories
    1. Consider your available budget. Expenses accumulate like a snowball. When buying things for your room, it is important not to overspend. Write down your available budget on a piece of paper or on your smartphone, and then write down the cost of each item you need to buy. If some items are beyond your budget, then refuse the purchase or cross out other items to keep it within the available amount.

      • It is important to remember that in some stores prices may be indicated without the delivery amount.
      • Evaluate the necessity of purchasing each item. If an item seems cute and suitable to you, then it is important to understand how much you need it. In some cases (like buying pillows for a sofa), it is important to take into account the price factor - you don’t need to buy the most expensive product if you can find pillows of the same quality, but cheaper.
      • It is better to give preference to cheaper accessories, but at the same time beware of things of poor quality - no need to buy cheap frameless chair, which will tear immediately after the first use!
    2. Go shopping. It may be more convenient for you to buy accessories for your room on the Internet, but it is better to touch the things with your own hands. This is especially true for bedding or chairs - it is important to carefully examine their appearance not on a computer screen and check for durability so that you can return them if you are not happy with something. In addition, you can go shopping with friends. Make choosing things fun!

      • Often things in small stores turn out to be no worse than products from famous brands. You don't have to go to a big mall to buy bedroom accessories (unless you want to spend a lot of time shopping around).
    3. Buy the necessary things first. A store-bought pillow might be perfect for your bedroom, but if you need to replace a broken office chair, look to office chairs first. The functionality of the room is more important appearance, so buy everything you need and only then move on to additional wishes. If your room doesn't serve its purpose (for example, there's no bed in the bedroom), then who cares what it looks like!

      Choose light and practical furniture. Good furniture doesn't have to be heavy and bulky - lightweight decorative pieces of furniture can also serve their purpose, but are easier to rearrange. Plus, they will often cost you less. There are many examples of lightweight furniture that would be suitable for a "cozy" themed bedroom. Search and you will definitely come across something interesting.

      • Frameless and spring chairs are easy to rearrange and still look great.
      • Pillows and fluffy blankets will decorate any room, in addition, they can always be put away in a closet or pushed into a corner.
      • Small desk lamp will provide local lighting anywhere in the room. A lava lamp can look great in a themed bedroom.
      • Rugs are easy to roll up and put away, but still allow you to divide the floor into colored zones.
      • Small folding boxes are convenient for storing things, and canvas baskets come in different colors and patterns.
    4. Use wall decorations. There is no need to leave your walls to just wallpaper or paint. Framed pictures, inspirational quotes, and other decorations are available at a variety of stores and can be easily mounted on walls. You can also use posters and cork boards- they take up more space, but this is not always a bad thing.

      • A cheap alternative is to print quotes and pictures on plain paper.
    5. Choose accessories for your desk and bedside table. Do you need a desk lamp to help you do your homework in the evening? Want to set an alarm clock next to your bed to make it easier for you to get up in the morning? If you find the right pieces that look good on your desk or nightstand and fit your budget, then it's a double win!

      Buy bedding. These are not the most necessary things for beautiful bedroom, but they will certainly come in handy. You can find duvet covers and sheets with unusual patterns that match the theme of the bedroom, and pillows are not only for sleep but also for comfort. Soft fluffy blankets can be thrown over chairs or placed on top of the bed.

    6. Don't forget storage supplies. Even if you're not into collecting, you're still learning, right? Baskets, pen and pencil holders, and small drawers or boxes make great storage accessories that can be easily rearranged anywhere. They are often a "blank slate" that can be decorated with your own hands or used as decoration.

      • Small trash cans aren't exactly called storage accessories, but they can be placed in a corner or under a table, which can be handy if you have a small bedroom. They are the most different types and designs.

    Part 3

    Cleaning, repair and arrangement
    1. Clean up the bedroom . No need to complain, just get busy cleaning. This will make your room look ten times better and give you more room to maneuver, which is always helpful. Find a time when you are not busy with other things to clean your room.

      • Take four boxes and label them “Trash,” “Recycle,” “Donate,” and “Keep.” All things should be distributed into four baskets (it is not recommended to put them in piles and hope that you don’t get confused - in addition to the fact that things can get mixed up, without boxes it will be more difficult for you to remove them from the room).
      • First, sort out things and papers in visible places. Often they are the easiest to find and make decisions about the future fate of things. It's unlikely you'll have any use for your homework from three years ago or old pizza boxes.
      • Look in the closet. Consider items that you no longer wear or that have become too big for you - they can be donated to charity or thrown away if they are in too bad a condition. Don't convince yourself that you will still need them!
      • Inspect places that are usually deprived of your attention - look under the bed and under the table, check the bottom drawers of the dresser. If you haven't cleaned them for a long time, now is the time.
    2. Examine the room after cleaning. Think about what changes you planned and how they will look. Determine your first steps and share your plans with your assistants. This way you'll get the most important work done and won't spend all your time constantly rearranging and trying to choose the best option through trial and error!

      • If you are going to paint the walls or re-wallpaper, you will need to remove all the furniture from the room. It's better to do it right away. At this stage, you cannot do without the help of adults.

Quite often, many people are faced with the problem of lack of comfort in their apartment. Indeed, organizing a cozy living space is not so easy. In order to give your apartment comfort, you need to choose the perfect interior and fill it with various little things. We will look at how to make even a one-room living space cozy in more detail in this article.

Cozy Khrushchev

Often the owners studio apartment problems arise with the arrangement of the premises. Most often, this is due to the fact that the size of a one-room living space is small and in one room you have to combine a place for sleeping, receiving guests and working. However, even in a small one-room apartment you can create comfort using a basic division into zones. The intersection of different zones should be minimal.

In order for your apartment to become a studio, you should adhere to the following tips:

  • It is necessary to avoid massive decorations around the entire perimeter. The best option is to group decorations in several zones;
  • the window should be as open as possible;
  • Original homemade little things made by yourself will help decorate the studio;
  • zones dividing the studio should not intersect.

In addition, for a small one-room apartment, the combination of colors plays an important role. The best option to make it beautiful is to use shades of light colors. They will help increase space.

The main emphasis should be on small elements. The best option is to make them yourself or pick them up small details in interior style.

The space in such apartments should be optimized as much as possible. For a studio apartment, it is worth purchasing multifunctional furniture that can free the apartment from unnecessary elements. If you wish, you can create the furniture yourself. Self-adhesive film can help make such furniture stylish without much expense.

  • closet;

  • desk;
  • nightstand;
  • shelf;
  • place for toys.

These elements are quite enough to fill the space. Moreover, the furniture does not have to be new.

If there is no money, old room furniture can be used as a basis for creating new things. You can restore old things with your own hands in the style of a children's room.

Small details will help create coziness in this room. It’s enough to buy a cute rug or make curtain holders in the shape of toys. The walls can be further decorated with fabulous illustrations. Particular attention should be paid to the color scheme of this room. It must be light in color.

Comfort in the hallway? Easily!

To organize a room such as a corridor, it is important to choose the right furniture. As a rule, the corridor is always characterized by sufficient big amount things that have nowhere to hide.

This feature can be played out quite well if you install wall shelves, hangers and other accessories that, in addition to functionality, fill the room with decor.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to solve all design problems in one evening. But if you just want to make your apartment cozy and comfortable or add some personality to it after renovation, then these tips will come in handy.

1. Place an indoor flower in a corner

According to the website, design teachers never tire of repeating that a flower in the corner is bad manners. This idea was formed due to the fact that if an empty corner appears in the apartment, it means you made a number of mistakes in the layout. However, when creating a design project, many people completely forget about indoor plants. Therefore, if you have a suitable flower or tree in a beautiful pot, and also have an unoccupied corner at your disposal, you can safely put the plant there. So that it does not look like a separate element and fits perfectly into the existing interior, select large specimens with wide leaves in tubs. In this case, plants will become an excellent accent.

Choose a simple, laconic shape for the “house” for the flower, but with a pronounced texture. Ideal option will become a textile basket or clay pot. As for the plant itself, you need to rely on unpretentious and tall specimens (about a meter). Good example- lyre-shaped ficus. Due to its “growth”, it will fill the available space and decorate the room.

2. Use books

This decor option is most suitable for a bibliophile’s apartment. If you have at your disposal a large number of books, do not “lock” them in cabinets and cabinets, but use them for decorative purposes.

For example, a vase or figurine looks too small against the background of the wall, place it on two or three books. In this case, they will serve as a kind of pedestal for the sculpture. The same technique can be applied if one lamp on the bedside table is lower than the other. By adding the required amount of literature, you will achieve perfect symmetry.

Books are also useful if there is nothing to occupy the shelves in the apartment. Another option is to place them on cabinets, chests of drawers, and shelves. This way you can turn boring, monotonous furniture into a bright element of the interior.

Advice: If your apartment already has a lot of eye-catching elements and you want to make the decor more neutral, remove glossy covers from books that attract attention.

3. Bet on transparent furniture

Transparent furniture is currently in trend. And this is not surprising, because it has the ability to “dissolve” in the interior. A table and chairs made of Lucite or acrylic will fit perfectly into the decor of even the smallest apartment, because they will not “crush” and overload the space. You can start with small elements, such as a transparent lamp or shelf. Put a normal one on it glass vase with flowers, and you will notice how the surrounding atmosphere has changed.

Designers advise experimenting and combining classic and modern materials eg glass and acrylic. This technique will work best in apartments decorated in a rustic style, since wood acts as a connecting element and combines all the details into a single whole.

4. Choose a “leading” color

Do you have a favorite color? So it’s time to actively use it in interior design. According to experts, the same shade will look completely different on different surfaces. For example, on a bedside table, plastered wall, ceiling, and so on.

If you use a single color in each room, it will visually unite all the rooms into a single composition. Another interesting trick is to paint the floors throughout the entire apartment the same shade. In this case, you will achieve the ideal combination of wall and floor colors, and if necessary, you can quickly and easily rearrange the furniture.

5. Embrace asymmetry

Let's be honest: anyone can hang a picture evenly over a bed or sofa. But not everyone can correctly use non-centered suspension. But it's still worth a try. Especially if photographs or souvenirs look too small against the background of a huge wall. In this case, they will need to be shifted from the central axis to the side, hanging to the side and lower than usual. Such asymmetry will look much more interesting and original.

The same trick will work well in relation to the free space above the shelves, bedside table, and fireplace. The main thing is to adhere to the rule: “lower and closer to the edge.” This way you can turn a room with a ridiculous design into a stylish and bright room in a few minutes.
